HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I.

THEME: JESUS HEALS AND DELIVERS.

BY: FR. GERALD M. MUSA.

CS. Lewis author of Problem of Evil” wrote: “God whispers to us in or pleasures, speaks to us in our consciences, but shouts in our pains.” At different times in our lives, we experience all lkinds of brokenness – broken hearts, broken bodies, and broken spirits. Our broken hearts are consequences of emotional distress and disappointment, our broken bodies from sickness and physical pains, and our broken spirits come with obvious symptoms such as despair, sadness, low morale, sadness, and depression.

Jesus came to restore people to wholeness and to make them enjoy the fullness of life. He says, T have come that they may have life to the full” (ohn 10:10). He fulfils the words of the Psalmist which says, God heals the broken hearted and binds their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). He healed Simon’s mother-in-law by approaching her, grasping her by the hand, and helped her up (Luke 4:3839).
More still, all those who were sick were brought to him, he laid his hands on them and healed them” (Luke 4:40). Jesus is still in constant solidarity with the human race, particularły with the sick and suffering. How confident are we in asking Jesus the Saviour to heal our broken hearts, bodies, and spirits?
