*FROM OUR FIRST READING*
In our first reading today, we heard the narrative of the moment of time when the Church grew rapidly in its early days, and began to be pulled into two opposite extremes. With the conversion of many of the Jewish people both in Judea and Galilee as well as in the diaspora, and not few of them came from among the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law. Meanwhile, the Apostles and the missionaries of the Lord had also managed to get great inroads into the Gentile communities throughout the Mediterranean, as many among the Greeks and other local populace, as well as the Romans and many others began to heed the call of the Lord and embraced Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

*FROM OUR GOSPEL READING*
In today’s gospel reading, Jesus speaks about the importance of his disciples bearing fruits. The fruits Jesus is referring to is the fruit of love, a life of love that reflects Jesus’ love for his disciples, and for all of us. Jesus makes it clear that a life of love flows from our communion with him, just as fruits on the branches of a vine are due to the branches being in communion with the vine. If the branches are separated from the vine, the fruits will wither. In the same way, Jesus says, ‘cut off from me you can do nothing’. Jesus stresses the importance of a certain way of life, a life of love, but he suggests that even more important is our communion with him and his with us.

*CONCLUSION*
Dear friends in Christ, in becoming flesh, Jesus made himself at home with us; he looks to us to make ourselves at home with him. As he has cultivated his communion with us, we are to cultivate our communion with him. It is this intimate relationship with the Lord that empowers our lives to bear the fruit of love. It is only in and through our communion with the Lord that we can come to love one another as he has loved us, and it is such a way of life that gives glory to God the Father.
May God bless us all through Christ our Lord. Amen.
