HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31 2022

1Cor. 3:1-9; Ps.32; Luke 4:38-44

To be frank, there’s no kind of politicking that could be termed ‘Christian’. This would be a contradiction in terms, for the very idea of politicking suggests working towards one’s own (usually selfish) goals. When we arrogate powers to one man, or some men, and become sycophants, singing their praises to the skies, in order to become ‘favourites’, we become as evil as those we praise. This is what degenerates into cliques – ‘I am for Apollos, I am for Paul’.

Friends, St Paul encourages us to remember that the one who does the planting and the one who does the watering should be seen as ‘insignificant’, since only God makes things grow. Why do we have Christians today who practically worship some self acclaimed ‘gods’? Why do pastors and preachers forget their place and claim the glory that belongs to God? Only God is God. If God has given us the privilege to preach the word, heal the sick, and cast out devils, we must be humble enough not to forget our place. May God help us all, Amen.

Good morning dear. Happy last day of August.
