HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF LENT

HOMILY THEME: LENT: DAY 13 – FAST FROM EVIL PLOTS; EMBRACE GOODWILL

BY: Rev. Fr. Jacob Aondover ATSU

HOMILY: READINGS: JEREMIAH 18:18-20, PSALM 31, MATTHEW 20:17-28

✓•Do not be like the wicked men of Jeremiah’s day
✓•Do not concoct evil schemes to pull down a brother/Sister
✓•Do not repay the good done to you with evil
✓•Do not pray evil for your aggressors
✓•Embrace true ambition, servant leadership and humility.

Beloved, to share in Jesus’ triumph, we must share in his cup of pain. We must show an unshakable loyalty to Christ like James and John who were willing to drink his bitter cup. If to conquer with Christ meant to suffer with Christ, they were perfectly willing to face that suffering. To glory with Christ at his resurrection come Easter, we must undergo his passion and cross this Lent. What are we willing to do for Christ? Are we willing and ready to walk in Jesus’ way, the way of the Cross?

There is no shortcut to heaven, no bypass; there is only one way, the long way of dedicated service, commitment, faith and loyalty to the cross. His call for us today is one of humble service for he also chose the path of service. Lent calls us to take up our crosses and reproduce in our lives the same kind of love that filled the heart of Christ. The love that made him die for us even while we were sinners. Lent exhorts us to look for eternity in the right direction. It challenges us to seek the saving grace of God who is merciful and faithful (Psa. 31:17).

This Lent, we pray God like the prophet Jeremiah did: “Give heed to me (us) O Lord and listen to my (our) pleas” (Jer. 18:19) as we strive through the pains of this life towards eternity. Amen.
