We find Instruction Manual whenever we buy new products, equipment, electronics or automobiles. These instruction manuals guide us on how to operate the equipment and how best to enjoy the equipment. In addition, these manuals help us maximise the equipment’s benefits and know the right usage and maintenance of the equipment
Similarly, Divine laws are designed to serve as instruction manuals for us who are on the journey of life. They are road maps that lead us to our desired final destination, heaven. They are derived from God’s wisdom and designed for those who love him (1 Cor. 2:6-10). Jesus corrected a wrong impression which says he came to abolish thelaw and the prophets. He said: Thave not come to abolish them but to fulfil them” (Matthew 5:17).This is to say that His teaching builds on the teaching of the law and the prophets.
Besides, Jesus teaches us a positive way of looking at the laws of God with His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5). Also, He summarised the Ten Commandments into the love of God and love of neighbour. The law of God is not a burden but a guide towards leaving a fruitful and blessed life. Do we obey the law out of love for God or for fear of punishment?
