HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE TWENTY-SIXTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A.

HOMILY THEME: GOD NEEDS SOMEONE

BY: Fr. Livinus Igbodekwe

HOMILY:
(NEH 2:1-8)
It has been under debate whether God needs us given the fact that God is omni-sufficient. This is true. God needs nothing. Yet God started being in need of us from the time He created us. St Augustine says that the God Who created us without us cannot save us without us. Let us consider this: if God does not need man why would Jesus choose the Twelve? Again if God does not need man why would He send Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt? Jeremiah 51:20 says we are God’s hammer and weapon. That is to say that we are His instruments.

In the first reading Nehemiah is the instrument that God would use to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem because his heart was ready to be used. In the Gospel this readiness is needed for one to be a disciple to change the World. The Gospel presents two people. One was ready but was attached to things that don’t synchronise with the cause of the gospel. The other was called but his heart was not ready.

Dear friend let us get detached from things or persons that debar us from being useful to the Master.
Shalom !!!
