HOMILY THEME: THE POWER OF TOUCH

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mk.6:53-56)
In the day’s Gospel Jesus continued His healing ministry. Very prominent here is the act of touching and being touched. Those who were able to touched Jesus were healed. Those whom Jesus touched were also healed. To touch or be touched resulted in healing. It means being connected to the Lord. Touching makes that possible. The act of touching allowed graces to flow from the Lord to the sick person.

What is in a touch? Touches may all look the same but have different results. Touches may have different intentions. The touch of a murderer is different from the touch of a doctor. One destroys while the other heals. The touch of a mother is different from the touch of a lover. One is care and the other is romantic and maybe erotic. The touch of a friend is different from the touch of an enemy. One means well while the other means bad. When we touch the Lord, it is to ask for healing and forgiveness. When the Lord touches, He means to heal and forgive. Thus, a touch of faith should result to healing and forgiveness.

Do you want to touch the Lord? It means, do you want to be healed and forgiven? Of course! And Jesus wants it too. But the challenge is to touch with faith. Jesus will always touch with grace. In the Gospel, Jesus went to a place where people had faith in Him. Thus, they were healed. Not like in Nazareth, remember? There He was rejected. Thus, He could not make many miracles there. But whether miracle or forgiveness, to touch with faith and be touched with grace result to healing, forgiveness and salvation. Strive to touch the Lord in faith. He will respond by touching us too with grace!
