HOMILY OF 10TH THURSDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: LEAVE THE BATTLE FOR GOD

Let us live in peace in order to rest in peace!
At any funeral the national anthem is “REST IN PEACE” The funniest and most scandalous thing is that most people saying such at the funeral were enemies WITH THE VICTIMS OF DEATH.
In our liturgy yesterday, we heard about Christ who came not to abolish the law but to amend it in order to make the world a peaceful and better place. In the Old Testament, it is “DO ME I DO YOU, THE MAN NO GO VEX” but Jesus told us that “TWO WRONGS CAN NEVER MAKE A RIGHT” . Hence, today’s liturgy is building on the liturgical foundation laid yesterday telling us to embrace love and forgiveness.

Are we driven by anger or rage? Anger in the heart as well as anger in speech or action are equally forbidden. In the cross of Jesus we see the supreme example of love and the power for overcoming evil. Only God’s love and grace can set our hearts and minds free from the tyranny of wounded pride and spiteful revenge. Do we harbour any anger towards another person? And are we quick to be reconciled when a rupture has been caused in our relationships? God has forgiven us and he calls us to extend mercy and forgiveness towards those who cause us harm and grief. Let us ask God to set us free and to fill our hearts and minds with his love and truth.
In a nutshell, the glory of the lord will dwell in our land if the ordinances of the lord are strictly followed and kept.
Reflection: Prefix D + Anger. This implies that Anger leads to danger !
PRAYER: May I be no man’s enemy, and may I be the friend of that which is eternal and abides. May I never quarrel with those nearest me: and if I do, may I be reconciled quickly. May I love, seek, and attain only that which is good. May I wish for all men’s happiness and envy none. Amen
