HOMILY THEME: COVENANT KEEPING GOD!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

2 Samuel 7:1-5,8-12,14,16, Psalm 88:2-5,27,29, Luke 1:67-79

Covenant keeping God, there is no one like You, Alpha and Omega, there is no one like You… Zachariah’s song of praise in the gospel reading of today reminds me of this song. I can imagine how this elderly prophet felt when he saw his elderly used to be barren wife conceive and eventually give birth to John. I imagine the joy, the awe and the overwhelming power Zechariah felt as the Holy Spirit possessed him completely. His tongue had just been loosened, and all he could think about was releasing the prophecy of praise on his lips. “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel…”

Friends, we need not worry about whether or not God will do what He said He will do. In the first reading, David was concerned about building God a house here on earth, but God was concerned about building him a dynasty that lasts forever. God’s own Son was born of David’s line, through this dynasty, the whole world gained salvation. God is always ahead of us. He knows what is best for us, He knows how it is best for us, and He knows just when it is best for us. So relax, and begin to praise Him like someone with faith. Let go, and let God take the wheel of your life.

Good morning dear. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.
