HOMILY OF 24TH THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: READY TO THE EXTRA MILE?

Fr Oselumhense Anetor

1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Ps. 118:1-2, 15-17, 28, Luke 7:36-50

To have been called and chosen by God is a rare privilege. But we often do lose sight of this privilege. Don’t we? Why else do we repay evil for evil; bear grudges like ‘no man business’, and refuse to show compassion and mercy to others? Why do we refuse to forgive wrong doings, and seek opportunities to exact vengeance?

Friends, in today’s Gospel reading, Jesus admonishes us to go the extra mile. A true Christian isn’t good only to those who are good to him/her. We ought to learn something from the mercy of God, who is kind, even to the ungrateful and selfish. We must make a resolve today, to forgive those who have offended us, to give without counting the cost, to do good even to those who hate us, and above all, to love our enemies.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, every new day is a gift from you. May my very breath praise you, and may your grace move me to show kindness to all, including the least deserving, Amen.

God bless your day ahead.
