HOMILY OF 25TH THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: DON’T PROCRASTINATE!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Ecclesiastes 1:2-11; Psalm 89(90):3-6, 12-14, 17; Luke 9:7-9
Life is useless if it doesn’t aim at some spiritual good. Indeed, what matters in the end, is not our money in the bank; or how famous we become for doing something really creative, since there’s nothing new under the sun. There will continue to be wealthy people, and the world will keep seeing creative geniuses. However, what matters is how much of our lives we spend in the service of God and neighbour.

Friends, no one is too far gone to seek redemption. Although Herod was a proud man, and a murderer, he sought to see Jesus, that he might get to know him; he sought some spiritual purpose for his life as a result of guilt and shame. From this we learn that feelings of guilt should not push us away from God, but should rather make us anxious to be reconciled so as to be able to build Him a home within our hearts. Though not much is known about Cosmas and Damian, they sought first God’s Kingdom, to the point of being killed in Syria. Their martyrdom was an act of selflessness, knowing that everything else is vanity.
God bless your day ahead. Sts. Cosmas and Damian. Pray for us.
