BY: Obinna Ezeaputa

2 Timothy 4:10-17, Ps. 145:10-13a,17-18, Luke 10:1-9

Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Luke, the evangelist and companion of Saint Paul. Luke’s Gospel and Acts of the Apostles provide valuable insights into the life of Jesus and the early Church. Luke’s writings are inspiration to share the healing power of the Gospel.

In our first reading (2 Timothy 4:10-17b), we hear of Luke’s dedication to the apostle and his mission. Luke remained with Paul during his imprisonment, offering support and comfort. This loyalty reflects Luke’s commitment to spreading the Gospel.

In today’s Gospel (Luke 10:1–9), Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples to prepare towns for His arrival. He instructs them to heal the sick and proclaim the Kingdom of God. Luke emphasizes Jesus’ compassion and concern for the whole person—body, soul, and spirit.

Luke’s Gospel highlights Jesus’ healing ministry, demonstrating God’s love for the marginalized and suffering. From the blind beggar Bartimaeus (Lk 18:35-43) to the woman with the hemorrhage (Lk 8:40-56), Jesus brings restoration and wholeness.

As followers of Christ, we are called to continue Luke’s legacy, sharing the Gospel’s healing power. We must care for the whole person, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Like Luke, we should remain dedicated to our mission, supporting one another in our faith journey.

May his example inspire us to proclaim the kingdom of God with compassion and urgency; heal the wounds of others through acts of kindness and charity; remain faithful to our mission; and support one another in Christ’s love. Amen.
