HOMILY OF 2ND SUNDAY OF THE ADVENT: YEAR C
HOMILY OF 2ND SUNDAY OF THE ADVENT: YEAR C
HOMILY THEME: THE PLATFORM OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
BY: Fr. Justus Oruh
Bar 5:1-9, Phil 1:4-6, 8-11, Luke 3:1-6
(a) It is interesting how the Gospel of the 2nd Sunday of Advent begins- by mentioning the exact time of the leadership of the “who is who” in the land and the political authorities of the time; the Caeser, the Pontius, the Herod, reigning in their high places. At that time, a Voice was calling in the wilderness.

(b) This Voice calling from the desert is true and free from all political influences of the time, free from the political corruption, free from lust and worldly pleasures. It was simple and speaking truth and justice. These features made this voice powerful and loud.
(c) Could we imagine again from were the voice is calling from? It sought no famous platform, it needed no political arena of Herods of the time before it could speak, it needed not to be a celebrity. The dry desert and lonely dessert was it’s platform. The desert was enough for John the Baptist. Who we are and what we do in life, is enough platform to speak truth and justice and love of God. We don’t need any special person or have any famous platform before we could speak. We speak louder with our good deeds. This Voice today calls us to repentance, to put away bad deeds and put on good deeds, to make our lives sincere and straight so that we see God’s glory when He appears to us. We have to listen to this Voice for it is just and true.
