HOMILY OF 30TH WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: BE FOCUSED AND COMMITTED
BY: Fr. Ernest Cross
In today’s narrative, a curious person asks Jesus, “Will only a few be saved?” Rather than providing a direct answer, Jesus uses this question as an opportunity to encourage people to strive to enter through the narrow door.

He implies that just as passing through a tight door requires focus and concentration, so too does the path to salvation and fullness of life demand effort and determination from us.
The narrowness of the door does not imply that only a select few will be able to enter. Indeed, at the end of the gospel reading, Jesus states that people from the north and the south, as well as from the east and the west, will come to join the feast in God’s kingdom.
There are countless individuals beyond the door. The question, “Will only a few be saved?” carries an implied answer: “No, not a few, but many.” However, Jesus cautions that God’s boundless generosity should not lead to complacency. We must still make an effort to enter through the narrow door, which we achieve by following in Jesus’ footsteps, listening to God’s word, and acting according to His teachings.
There is no room for complacency. Heaven is for those who remain committed and focused on their journey of faith until the end of their earthly lives.
God bless you.
