HOMILY OF 32ND MONDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: BE COMPASSIONATE!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

LUKE 17:1-6

Do you have any book that tells the lives of Saints? You probably should get one. I remember reading about St Martin of Tours. Perhaps the most popular story about him is how he gave half of his military cloak to a beggar while he was still a soldier in Amiens. He later had a dream in which the beggar revealed himself as Jesus Christ. This vision was part of what aided Martin’s transition from being a soldier to a hermit, and then a monk, before being ordained a priest, and later a Bishop. Martin was very compassionate, especially to the poor.

Friends, the compassion that St Martin of Tours had for others didn’t come overnight. It took simplicity of heart and sincerity of intention to achieve. In the same way, we are called to love God and one another with this simplicity of heart, and a sincerity of purpose. For if we aren’t led by God, we cannot hope to reprove those who go astray, nor forgive those who are sorry for wrongdoing. Let us Pray for true faith, that we may like St. Martin of Tours, make drastic positive changes to our lives, and daily practice self control, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead. St Martin of Tours, pray for us!
