HOMILY THEME: JUST HAVE FAITH
BY: BISHOP GERALD M. MUSA
In 1855, a preacher, Joseph M. Scriven wrote a beautiful poem to comfort his mother. This poem has been turned into a melodious and faith-inspiring song: “What afriend we have in Jesus; all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry; everything to God in prayer” Jesus carries our burden.

The woman who suffered the flow of blood for 12 years and an agonised father, Jarius whose daughter was at the point of death came to Jesus with faith so that he could relieve them of their critical conditions. While Jarius was still speaking to Jesus, his daughter was reported dead. Jesus compassionately said to the man, “Do not be afraid Just have faith” (Mark 5:36). Jesus miraculously raised the girl to life, with the words, Talitha koum” (Little girl, I say to you, arise!”). The woman with the flow of blood touched the cloak of Jesus and was cured immediately. Her flow of blood dried up. Faith is confidence in action
Jesus restores health to the sick and gives hope to the hopeless; He gives life to those who are dead in sin. We are surrounded and overwhelmed by pains, troubles, grief, sin, sickness, terror, and tough conditions of life and Jesus constantly tells us “Do not be afraidt Just have faith.” To have faith implies submitting totally to God and believing in his power to save. Do we always remember that no circumstance is greater than the power of Jesus?
