HOMILY OF 6TH SATURDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: “Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.”

BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido

Acts 18:23-28; Psalm 46(47):2-3, 8-10; John 16:23-28

Today, the Lord invites his us to pray and ask the Father for our needs, in his Name. Jesus remarks that he is able to instruct us thus because once his hour passed, he would be in the Father’s presence, interceding for us. The other reason behind his assurance is his intimacy, oneness, with the Father, whose love in communion with the Son envelops us. In that union, the one who intercedes for us and the one receiving the petition are one and the same.

His Ascension into heaven completed that work that began with his passion and death. His return to the Father is our victory, the source of the complete joy promised us in his Name. We already know about the many mighty deeds that his disciples wrought in his Name. It is prayer and faith that we must come to God in Jesus’ Name; and such prayer must be a constant conversation that details our life’s journey as we struggle with each day’s challenges. St. Paul and St. John remind us in their writings that we have life, believing in his Name. That Name evokes confession of faith and worship, proclaiming him as Lord, to the glory of the Father (Philippians 2). Such response of confession and worship prayerfully makes us beneficiaries of God’s favors, when we ask in Jesus’ Name. Blessed be the Holy Name of Jesus forever and ever.

Lord Jesus, you are seated at the right hand of the Father, pleading for us; Lord, have mercy. Amen
