HOMILY OF SATURDAY 7TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: ASPIRE TO BE SAINTS!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
James 5:13-20; Mark 10:13-16
The story is told of a class teacher who one day asked the children in his class what they aspired to be when they grew up. Some wanted to be doctors, others lawyers, some engineers, and others teachers; the list went on. But when Oseremhen was asked, he paused for a moment and said ‘I want to be a saint!’. Everyone, including the teacher, laughed at him. Then the teacher said, ‘seriously Ose, what do you want to be when you grow up.’ Ose replied again, ‘I want to be a saint’. This time, no one laughed.

Friends, today, Jesus says we must learn to welcome God’s Kingdom like children. Do we truly aspire to be saints? What must we do to be saints? St James gives us an answer today: pray when troubled, sing psalms when happy, be anointed when sick, confess when in sin, bring back one who strays from the truth… and the rest, as they say, is history. We must again reawaken our childlike innocence, that we may draw closer to the Kingdom of God. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, May God purify our desires and strengthen our wills, and may our prayers come before Him like incense, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend
