HOMILY OF THE 11TH WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: THIN SOWING MEANS THIN REAPING!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
2 Cor 9:6-11; Psalm 112:1-4, 9; Matt 6:1-6, 16-18
Seed sowing has become so popular in our Churches today. Sometimes, we make sure we particularly focus on it, threatening our Parishioners with various forms of doomsday prophecies should they refuse to respond. This trend has bred a new generation of hypocrites. Today, St Paul makes us understand that God prefers the kind of alms giving that is voluntarily given from a cheerful heart, and that seed sowing need not be money. It could mean pouring out our lives for others.

Similarly, in the gospel reading, Jesus admonishes us not to parade our good deeds before men and women in order to attract their praise. Prayer and fasting must not be done to attract attention either. We worry more about impressions than our essence sometimes. This is sad. It is the kind of hypocrisy that Jesus outrightly condemns today. God has never, and will never be interested in self aggrandisement. He’s more interested in our inner disposition to serve rather than be served, and this is what he rewards. May God grant us generosity of heart and humility of soul, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless you day ahead.
