HOMILY OF THE 18TH MONDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: JESUS FEEDS HIS PEOPLE

BY: Fr Ernest Cross

Num 11:4b-15; Psalm 81:13-17; Matt 14:13-21

In the gospel of today, we are blessed with not just a miracle of bread but a magnificently deep theology of surrender and spirituality of divine cooperation. The five loaves of bread and two fish selflessly offered by the you could scarcely be enough for the multitude. Yet, his selfless act and faithful gesture became an instrument of God’s abundant providence.

Sometimes we hesitate to offer our meagre resources, limited talents and imperfect love, thinking that they are insufficient for God’s great work. What Gid needs from us is our availability, not our ability. Jesus has taught this morning that God can do great things with our littleness. No matter how little our gifts are, we are meant to place them confidently into the hands of Jesus Christ so that they become sacraments of His infinite Love.

Dear brothers and sisters, God does not need our abundance, he only desires that we trust him. Like the boy who gave everything he had, we are called to surrender our “five loaves”, with confidence knowing that God’s love can transform our offering into bread for the hungry world. Allow God to use you the way he wants!

God bless you.
