HOMILY OF THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY OF THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: You are a priest forever!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Heb 7:1-3, 15-17; Psalm 109(110):1-4; Mark 3:1-6
It’s not unusual to think only ordained persons are priests in the Church. This is as wrong as saying only Catholics will go to heaven. By virtue of our baptism, we become sharers in the three-fold ministry of Christ. We become kings, prophets, and priests. Those who further receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders became ministerial priests. Hence, the eternal priesthood of Melchizedek prefigures Christ’s priesthood, from which we all share when we’re baptised and anointed with the sacred oil of Chrism.

As kings, we must rule our wayward senses, guide our actions, and carry ourselves with the dignity befitting our status. As prophets, we must read and digest God’s word, that we may better interpret the signs of the times, speak the truth with courage, and become beacons of light. As priests, we must build bridges between God and his people; heal the sick as Jesus did in today’s gospel, proclaim the goodness of God to the ends of the earth, and offer our very selves as worthy sacrifices in furtherance of God’s kingdom here on earth. Are we doing this already? It’s not too late to begin.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
