HOMILY OF THE 3RD MONDAY IN EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: WORK FOR THE FOOD THAT ENDURES!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Acts 6:8-15, Ps. 119:23-24,26-27,29-30, John 6:22-29

Jealousy is nothing new. Just like Jesus was betrayed by one of his own, Stephen too was sold out by people who claimed to belong to the Synagogue of Freedmen. They were upset by the signs and wonders God worked through him; his wisdom, his boldness, his eloquence. So they told lies about him. Clearly, they weren’t interested in anything eternal. Their eyes were fixed only on what they could gain in the moment.

My dear friends, we mustn’t let selfish ambition be our driving force. In today’s gospel, the people were busy chasing Jesus; but not because they wanted to listen to him. They were more concerned about getting another free meal, like the one he’d given them earlier. But let’s not forget: money in the bank, fancy possessions, and worldly fame all fade away. What lasts is our effort to truly know and serve God; especially in the way we treat others. So, what would you rather be known for?

Good morning, dear. May God bless your week ahead.
