HOMILY THEME: HOW JESUS CHRISTMAS CAME TO BE BORN
BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA
Jeremiah 23:5-8, Ps. 72:1-2,12-13,18-19, Matthew 1:18-24
INTRODUCTION
Today is December 18th, and the liturgy of today, remind us of God’s faithfulness and His promise of a Savior. Jeremiah speaks of a righteous descendant of David who will bring justice and peace. This prophecy points to Jesus, the fulfillment of God’s promise. In the Gospel, we see Joseph’s trust in God as he obeys the angel’s message about Jesus’ miraculous conception. These themes invite us to trust in God’s plan and prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming.

FROM OUR FIRST READING
Jeremiah’s prophecy shows that God keeps His promises, even when the wait is long. The people of Israel had to trust that a Savior would come to bring justice and safety. This encourages us to trust that God remains faithful, even when life feels uncertain. As we prepare for Christmas, we can reflect on God’s faithfulness in our own lives, remembering how He has cared for us in the past.
FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In the Gospel, Joseph shows great faith by listening to God’s call. When faced with unexpected news, he chose to trust the angel’s message and take Mary as his wife. Joseph’s obedience teaches us to trust God, even when His plans are difficult to understand. His example challenges us to say yes to God’s will, especially during times of waiting and preparation like Advent.
CONCLUSION
The name Emmanuel, meaning “God with us,” reminds us of God’s closeness. Through Jesus, God is present with His people, offering comfort and hope. This Advent, we are called to welcome God into our hearts, trusting that He is near. As we reflect on these themes, may we open ourselves to God’s guidance, trust His faithfulness, and embrace the promise of His presence with us always.
May You have a Blessed Wednesday.
