HOMILY OF THE 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER (GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY) — YEAR C

HOMILY THEME: CHRIST THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Acts 13:14,43-52; Rev.7:9,14-17; John 10:27-30

(a) We are familiar with the picture of Jesus the good shepherd, where he carries a sheep around his shoulders. It is said that, this was a wounded and a weak sheep. Upon the shoulders of Christ, the sheep is nursed and taken care of. In this way, Christ carries each and everyone of us around his shoulders especially in our weaknesses. We are not individuals lost in the great number of the Church impossible to count, as the book of Revelation tells. Christ the good shepherd knows each one of us. He hears and knows our voice. His faithful also knows His voice.

(b) Like Christ we all carry our responsibilities on our shoulders. The Pallium we saw hanging on shoulders of the new Pope represents the sheep and responsibilities he has to carry as the visible shepherd of Church of Christ. We all also have our responsibilities entrusted to us. They are already hanging on our shoulders.

(c) We are care takers of one another through the services we render in the community. The picture of Christ the good shepherd reminds us to take care of others and the assignments we have in the family, in the church and in community with love and dedication. It calls us to take more concerned on the weak, the needy and the decaying values of our time, to carry these on on shoulders and to bring about their healing. Christ carries each and everyone one of us on his shoulders, may we carry and lift up one another. May we find solace and healing on the shoulders of Christ. Amen
