HOMILY OF THE 6TH THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST

Some years ago, a professional speaker asked his audience- what they would want him to recite for them. An elderly priest among them answered, “Please recite Psalm 23.” The speaker said he would recite the Psalm on one condition that the priest would do the same afterward. The priest said, “I am not a professional speaker, but if you want me to recite the Psalm, I would. The speaker recited the psalm professionally and was cheered by the audience Thereafter, the elderly priest came forward and recited the same psalm with a calm and croaky voice. His listeners were so touched that they cried.

HOMILY THEME: HOMILY OF THE 6TH THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The professional speaker got up to say: “When I recited the Psalm, I attracted your eyes and ears; when this elderly priest recited the psalm, he touched your hearts. The difference is very simple: I know the psalm; he knows the shepherd.” Likewise, Peter knew Jesus Christ. When othe disciples were speculating about who Jesus was, Peter declared: “You are the Messiah” (Mark 8:29).
Our main goal as Christians is to know “The only true God and Jesus Christ whom you sent” John 17:3). Through the help of the Holy Spirit, we can know Him and the power o His resurrection and grow in the grace and knowledge o God (Philippians 3:10; 2 Peter 3:18). Is our knowledge o Jesus based on hearsay or our encounter with him?
