HOMILY THEME: DON’T YOU REMEMBER?

Gen 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 10/Ps 29/Mk 8:14-21
We worry about so many things. Wise people remind us that Worry is like a rocking chair it swings you back and forth and it takes you nowhere.” The disciples were worried they had forgotten to take along bread for their journey. They had only one loaf with them in the boat. Jesus rebuked them for their worry and asked them questions. One of the questions He asked was “And do you not remember?” He asked if they were unable to remember the miracles of the multiplication of loaves. His question can be paraphrased this way: How could you have experienced a miracle very recently and you cannot trust that the same can happen again?” He rebuked them for lacking in understanding and perception and for forgetfulness.

They were so preoccupied with their lack of bread and forgot how God’s providence saved them from hunger.
Jesus knew that bizarre forgetfulness, and short memory can lead to ingratitude and lack of trust. This is why Scripture encourages us to remember all the way which the Lord God has led us (Deuteronomy 8:2). The Psalmist says, “T will call to mind the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old” (Psalm 77:11). Do we remember the great and wonderful deeds God has done in our lives in the past? Do we have faith to believe that God who saved us yesterday can also save us today?
