HOMILY OF THE EASTER MONDAY — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: TRUTH PREVAILS
BY: Bishop Gerald M. Musa
Acts 2:14,22-33, Psalm 15:1-2,5,7-11, Matthew 28:8-15
Wise people say, “The truth is like oil; no matter how much water you pour on it, it will always float.” The women who went to the tomb were filled with joy to see that Jesus rose from the dead. On the contrary, the chief priests and elders were sad. As religious leaders, they were supposed to be custodians of truth, but they thwarted, countered, and suppressed the truth of the resurrection. They offered a bribe to soldiers, presumably with a large sum of money, asking them to tell people a fake story that the body of Jesus had been stolen.

Lies are very easy to spread, and some people have made themselves agents and merchants of falsehood. Accepting the truth takes much courage, and holding on to the truth, living the truth, and disseminating the truth even take greater courage. The women who witnessed the resurrection, as well as Peter and the rest of the Apostles, spent their lives bravely witnessing and proclaiming the truth of the resurrection of Jesus.
The risen Christ said to the women, “Do not be afraid.” This implies fear of no one, not being afraid of death, and developing the courage to accept, uphold, live, and proclaim the truth. The truth prevails! Can we resolve to believe, uphold and live by the truth?
