HOMILY THEME: ARISE! SHINE!! FOR YOUR LIGHT HAS COME!!!

Isaiah 60:1-6/ Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6/ Matthew 2:1-12
Today, we celebrate the solemnity of the manifestation of God to the world. Basically, the feast of today recalls the manifestation of the Lord to the wise men from the east. However, we recall today also, Christ’s divine manifestation at his baptism, and his manifestation at the wedding at Cana. The readings of today remind us that God’s light shines through the whole world.

In the first reading, Isaiah reminds the post-exilic Israelites that the glory of the Lord is risen upon them. The experience of this glory is not reserved for the Israelites alone but for the whole world. The glory of God rises today on all who are downtrodden, devastated, depressed and lonely.
St. Paul reminds us all that we all are partakers in God’s inheritance. God who chose to manifest himself to the prophets and the apostles, has through Christ qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints.
The gospel of today points at two different reactions to God’s manifestation. For the wise men, Christ is the new born king whose glory shines throughout the world. They follow the star from the East and bring gifts that represent loyalty to come to worship him.
To the Jewish authorities however, Christ is an opposing voice that challenges the status quo. He is a threat that must be exterminated to avoid a clash of authority.
Beloved in Christ, Christ manifests himself to us daily. We see his glory in our families, our work places, our businesses. He is the light that shines forth in darkness. One that darkness cannot comprehend.
How we react to the divine manifestation in our lives is what make the difference.
We can choose to exterminate him and allow the devil reign over us. We do this when we resist the call to conversion, when we threaten and silence the voice of truth within and outside us, and when we see righteous and upright people as a threat rather than light.
We can also choose to search for him to adore, worship and give him gifts. This becomes manifest when we grow in God’s love, when we avoid envy and jealousy, and when we give God a prime position in all our aspirations and desires.
As we celebrate the epiphany today, we pray that God will manifest his power in all our aspirations and deeds this year and all the days of our lives.
Happy Solemnity of Epiphany
