HOMILY THEME: INTRODUCTION TO THE HOLY SATURDAY MORNING PRAYER ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS

It’s a deeply reflective time, isn’t it? On this Holy Saturday morning, as we wait in the quiet stillness between the cross and the resurrection, focusing our prayers on forgiveness feels particularly poignant.
Let us say together this Prayer for Forgiveness on Holy Saturday Morning
O God of boundless mercy and unfailing love, on this silent morning, as the world holds its breath in anticipation, we turn our hearts toward the profound mystery of forgiveness.

We remember the immense sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ, who bore the weight of our sins upon the cross. In his suffering, he showed us the ultimate act of love and offered forgiveness even to those who persecuted him.
Lord, we confess that we too stand in need of your forgiveness. We acknowledge the times we have fallen short, the words we have spoken in haste or anger, the judgments we have harbored in our hearts, and the ways we have failed to love as you have loved us.
Grant us, we pray, a spirit of true repentance. Help us to see our own failings with honesty and humility. Open our hearts to receive the forgiveness you so freely offer, a forgiveness that washes us clean and sets us free from the burdens of the past.
And as we receive your grace, empower us, O Lord, to extend that same forgiveness to others. Help us to release bitterness, to let go of resentment, and to walk in the light of reconciliation. Teach us to see others through the eyes of compassion, remembering that we are all in need of your mercy.
On this Holy Saturday, as we await the dawn of resurrection, may the seeds of forgiveness take root in our hearts, blossoming into new life and renewed relationships.
May your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
