HOMILY OF THURSDAY 17TH WEEK IN THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE FISHERMEN COLLECT THE GOOD FISH AND THROW AWAY THOSE THAT ARE NO USE

BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA

Jer 18:1-6; Psalm 145(146):2-6; Matt 13:47-53

FROM OUR FIRST READING
In our first reading today, God tells the prophet Jeremiah to visit a potter’s house. There, Jeremiah sees the potter working with clay, molding it as he wishes. God uses this image to show that He is the potter and we are the clay.

This image helps us understand that God is in control. He shapes our lives according to His will. Sometimes, we may resist or fail, but God can reshape us if we turn back to Him.
We should trust God’s hands. He knows what is best for us and can turn our lives into something good. Just as the clay must be soft and pliable, we must be open to God’s guidance.

FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In the Gospel reading, Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a net that catches all kinds of fish. The good fish are kept, and the bad are thrown away. This parable shows that there will be a final judgment.

CONCLUSION
Dear brethrens, the Kingdom of Heaven is open to everyone. However, we must live righteously to be part of it. God will separate the good from the bad at the end of time.
We should strive to live good lives, following God’s teachings. This parable reminds us to be vigilant and faithful. Our actions today determine our place in God’s kingdom.

May you have a Blessed month of August
