HOMILY: PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD (YEAR A)

HOMILY: PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD (YEAR A)

HOMILY THEME: THE EVENING

BY: Fr Emmanuel Nwokeji.

HOMILY: Welcome to Palm Or Passion Sunday of 2023. Sunday that ushers us into the Holy Week.

EVENING is defined as the time after the sunset and before bedtime, or later period of a lifetime or profession. The last part of the day; close of the day and early part of the night. The period of decreasing day light between afternoon and night.

Figuratively, evening is a concluding time period; a point in time near the end of something; the beginning of the end of something.

Looking at the world today, with a lot of evil going up and down. Sickness in every left and right side of the world. Above and beyond, the unusual spreading of Corona virus with unusual death rapidly affecting the religious worship, social gathering, economic growth, financial state and spiritual connectivity of the whole world. We are certain that we already in the Evening of our world. Close to darkest of the world.

Thus, there is no too much verbiage in the evening speech. Then, what shall we do?, let us keep on reflecting on the passion narrative of Christ’s death. Let us rethink our way of life. Let us ask for God’s mercy and compassion. Let us console Jesus with reparations, good works and charity. Let shout Hosanna in the highest. Let us keep on praying and wait for God’s will to be done and his reign to come.

Our Lord, our Lord, into your hands we command the evening of our lives and salvation. Save us now we cry.

Happy Palm and Passion Sunday!
