HOMILY/REFLECTION OF THURSDAY 15TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: HE MAKES THE YOKE WORTHWHILE!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Isa 26:7-9, 12, 16-19; Psalm 101(102):13-21; Matt 11:28-30
Life is weary and tiring. You know that, right? So why would anyone need a yoke, no matter how light? The story is told of two men who needed to get from point A to point B by boat. They had spent the better part of the night drinking themselves to stupor. When they got to the river bank where they had anchored their boat to a stake, they got into it and began rowing with all their strength. Dawn met them still rowing by the same bank of the river. The effects of the alcohol had gradually worn off. It was only then they realised they had been rowing without cutting the ropes.

Friends, life has its challenges. But refusing to take on the yoke of Christ is like rowing in a boat that’s tied up. Sometimes we expend a lot of energy without progressing at all. Christ’s yoke does not add to the burden; it rather makes it a lot lighter, and assures us of progress and direction. Friends, the Lord Jesus extends an open invitation to us today. Are you burdened? Have you laboured too hard? Are you frustrated by all of life’s challenges? Why not come to Jesus? There’s so much to learn from his humility and meekness. Do this, and your path will be a lot smoother.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
