HOMILY FOR THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR B (10)

HOMILY FOR THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR B.

HOMILY THEME: WE ARE SENT TO PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE
LORD’S COMING

BY: Fr. Cosmas Ukadike

HOMILY:

A prominent figure to help us enter deeply into this season of grace-Advent, is the person of John the Baptist.

As prophesied in the Old Testament; A voice cries in the wilderness prepare a way for the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God (Isaiah 40, 3).

And today’s Gospel tells us that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah: calling on his fellow country men/ women to put themselves aright with God through repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 1, 1-8).

Today we have got the same mandate which John the Baptist had, which is to prepare his country men/women for the coming of Jesus Christ.

As present day Christians, we are mandated through our baptism to be another John the Baptist.

This is because the mission of preparing people for Christ has not yet finished. Advent, reminds us of this mission and task which must be done.

Not minding the fact that its not an easy job to do. But it has to be done.

We pray that as we journey in this year’s.  Advent, we may be inspired to live out our baptismal calling of being the Voice of Hope to our generation as Christ’s coming is a consoling and comforting one.

Have a blessed week.
