HOMILY/SERMON FOR SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: WE CAN BE DIFFERENT, BUT COLLABORATE
BY: Fr. Arthur Ntembula
(Deuteronomy 4:32-34.39-40, Romans 8:14-17, Matthew 28:16-20)
The Trinity is One. We do not proclaim three gods but One that exists in three Persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Each of these Persons is God. The Father is what the Son is, the Son is what the Father is, and the Father and the Son are what the Holy Spirit is. All three are of the same substance. They are distinct as persons but inseparable. The Father is the Creator, the Son is the Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier. They work together, in the unity of their existence, in harmony. The presence of Jesus on earth revealed the face of God, which means that whoever saw Jesus also saw God. Jesus also revealed to us the Holy Spirit, who is always with us, sanctifying and giving us the courage to carry forward the works of evangelisation. The Most Holy Trinity is the foundation of our Christian life.

What does the Trinity communicate to us in our concrete life? It teaches us solidarity, a term that in this context refers to the mutual support and shared responsibility that the Trinitarian Persons demonstrate. Even if they are distinct, they work in solidarity, cooperation, unity, and love. As people, we are all different from each other in many ways. This is obvious and natural. But the Trinity teaches us that we must not allow our diversity to divide us. In how we live our lives with others, we must demonstrate that even if we are different, we can live together as brothers and sisters. Unity in diversity is possible. It is normal to disagree. This is expected in a community of diverse persons, characters and beliefs. However, disagreeing must not mean conflicting. In disagreeing, tolerance and accommodation must be exercised. We can use our diversity to build and serve the Church, our society, and humanity.
The Trinity helps us to understand the importance of the communion of persons. Love, the most powerful force in the universe, should be the guide of our relationships. We can live in communion both in the family and the Church, but everything crumbles without love. Love is what connects us, what makes us feel valued and part of something greater. We cannot be islands amid others. Co-existence is vital wherever we are, be it in the Church or the secular world. The Trinity, three persons in One, is united by love. Among the three persons of the Trinity, there is no subordination, superiority or inferiority. There is just love, communion, collaboration and unity.
Let us pray that the grace of the Most Holy Trinity may help us to banish all traces of egocentrism and division in our lives and that we may live in the love of God as brothers and sisters without allowing our diversity to divide us.
