HOMILY/SERMON FOR WEDNESDAY 15TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: NOTHING BUT PENCILS!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Isaiah 10:5-7,13-16, Ps. 94:5-10,14-15, Matthew 11:25-27

One of the things I remember clearly about the soap opera “Super Story” and indeed all Wale Adenuga Productions, is that there’s usually a quote at the end of each episode – “we’re nothing but pencils in the hand of the creator.” Look at Assyria in the first reading; God gave her permission to rise against those who angered Him. But Assyria forgot she was only a pencil. She began arrogating powers to herself like the axe, the saw and the cudgel, who forget that they’re useless if no one picks them up.

Friends, think about the pencil. It’s capable of the greatest sketches and drawings. It can even erase what’s already been drawn. But it’s useless when no one picks it up. That’s how we are. Our lives have meanings only because of God’s spirit in us. Why do we forget we have a Father in heaven? The thing about children is that they never claim to be bold or courageous except their parents are around. And they always believe that their parents are super heroes. We need to become more like children, and let God our super hero do all the sketching.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
