HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE THIRTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A.

HOMILY THEME: TRUST IN THE LORD IN TIME OF TROUBLE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:
(Lk. 19:41-44)
In the day’s Gospel Jesus describes the destruction of Jerusalem. It will be so devastating that those inside should flee and those outside should not dare enter it. It will be the time of punishment and suffering. Many would wish it had not come or they will not be caught in it. But all will just be part of a process. In the end, the Son of Man will come to redeem those who had been faithful.

God did not promise a rose garden during our lifetime. Jesus was being honest in telling us that because of Him, followers will go through a lot of pains and tribulations. The devil will be very active in subjecting Christians to temptations so as to lure them away from the Lord. But the Lord gave a promise that if they persevere in their faith, they could stand erect and raise their heads in victory and anticipation of the coming redemption.

There is divine justice. Life does not end in misery for the faithful Christian. No matter how long and hard it will be, it has an end and a reward. Thus, we are encouraged to trust and have faith in the Lord.
