HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE THIRTIETH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A.

HOMILY THEME: THE KINGDOM OF GOD

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:
(Lk. 13:18-21)
In the day’s Gospel Jesus responds to the question of the Kingdom of God. He gave two analogies which both stressed on its characteristic as the state of full potentialities. Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, a very small seed, which grows to a large bush and provides a home to birds. It is also like a yeast which produces a whole lot of leavened dough when mixed with flour. The Kingdom of God helps us grow to our full potential as a child of God.

The Kingdom of God is not a place. May be we point to the skies as the heavens, where God is and reigns. The Kingdom of God is where God reigns. Where God reigns, perfection is achieved. It is present in our midst, in every place, thing, situation, and person. Jesus is calling out to us to allow God to reign in us in order for us to reach our whole potential.

Goodness, holiness, love, peace, justice, forgiveness, and other Gospel values abide in the Kingdom. In other words, when God reigns, there is spiritual growth, fruit, development, and success. Evil will have no place in it.

God reigns in the family that prays together. God reigns when Friends forgive each other. God reigns when members of the community play their particular roles. God reigns when the poor are taken cared by the rich. God reigns when there is peace instead of war. God reigns here and now when people live in harmony and cooperation.
