HOMILY THEME: THE INVITATION

BY: Fr Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Lk. 14:15-24)

In the day’s Gospel, Jesus reveals who will dine in the Kingdom of God. He told them a parable on a banquet where many were invited. Those who were invited were concerned of other things. They excused themselves to the banquet in the process. For them, their land, animals, and relationships are more important. They elected to decline the invitation.

Jesus was referring to the attitude of some people regarding the invitation to be good and be worthy of the Kingdom. Many today are blinded by the importance of our possessions and relationships. We tend to compromise our relationship with God with our worldly attachments. Relationship with God can wait. Our worldly concerns matter more than our spiritual welfare.

Jesus gives credit to those who listened to Him and accepted His invitation to conversion. They are the ones who were later invited and came. When God invites, we do not decline or give lots of reasons. The invitation of God is one with alacrity and perfection. When He invites us to something, we must be willing and ready to follow.

The worst part of declining God’s invitation is not being able to dine with God in His Kingdom. It means rejecting Him and not wanting to belong to Him. That will be tragic. Not being able to dine with Him is tantamount to being outside of the kingdom and inside Satan’s kingdom. To be with God is our destiny. We should ink twice or thrice before we make that decision. Our happiness is in God. His offer is an offer of eternal joy. Accept His invitation and partake of the Kingdom.
