HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF LENT YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: THE CALL TO AUTHENTICITY

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 23:1-12)
Tuesday of the Second Week of Lent (Day 14 of Lent)

In the day’s Gospel Jesus exposes the leaven of the Pharisees and the call to authenticity. While we operate through our senses, they should be complimented by our wills and hearts. Words, external things, and even gestures and actions are not reliable basis of our true and full intentions and meanings. All should be one and connected.

Having a title needs to be complimented by performing its corresponding functions and responsibilities. The point of Jesus is not really being addressed with a title but being worthy of it. Teachings and preachings shoukd be accompanied with authentic works. Positions only have significance when occupied with humility. In everything, the heart should always by at the center. The heart if the matter is the matter of the heart.

Authenticity is not only a word. It is a way of life. It is an acceptance and expression of our true self. Our being has a lot to offer and express. God made us good and with a lot of potentials. He wants us to attain perfection. Perfection is attained in letting it out and be recognized.

Be yourself. Let others be themselves. Accept yourself. Accept others too. Aunthenticity is humility. Humility is holiness!
