MONDAY HOMILY: 34TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

THEME: Wisdom in unexpected places!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Dan.1:1-6,8-20; Luke 21:1-4

It’s not unusual to think that the best food for the body comprise fine wines and all kinds of meat. But in today’s first reading, Daniel, anxious not to defile his body, opted for vegetables and water for himself and his three brothers. After ten days, Daniel (Belteshazzar), Hananiah (Shadrach), Mishael (Meshach), and Azariah (Abednego), not only exhibited more wisdom, they also looked better than those who had eaten from the King’s table.

Friends, who would have thought that four young Judaeans would be ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in the whole of Babylon? And who would have thought that a poor widow, by putting in two small coins into the treasury, would prove wiser than all the rich people who had come before her? When we abandon divine wisdom in pursuit of fleeting secular ambitions, we become like the pig who still prefers dirt to the golden ring in its snout. May God help us all!

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead!
