REFLECTION FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

THEME: I am the Immaculate Conception

The feast of the Immaculate Conception is a celebration of the purity of Mary from birth. All humans were born with the stain of original sin. That stain which makes us unworthy of heaven until we become baptised. Mary is the Immaculate Conception, she was born without that stain of original sin.

Since the beginning of time, God has been making preparations to restore mankind. Even Isiah spoke of the coming of Jesus. The Jews kept waiting for him, they kept expecting the saviour who would liberate them and bring them salvation.

Jesus is the son of God. He is the second person of the blessed trinity. He is God. He alone is worthy. He alone is mighty. God took His time and prepared a befitting place for Himself. God is holy and only a holy being can bear him. He hates sin and so nothing sinful can behold him. This is why He made the Blessed Virgin Mary free of all stain of original sin.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is the most perfect of all of God’s creatures. She is the most worthy, the most befitting being to bear Him.

Not honouring the blessed virgin is like walking into the store of an artist and ignoring his most beautiful art work. It’s like paying so much money for a lot of substandard goods and ignoring that which is the most valuable.

Mary is God’s won mother. He loves her dearly. God sees clearly all the pain she went through during his suffering and death. He sees the intensity of her motherly affection for him and in all honesty, He’ll do whatever she asks of Him.

He loves her so much that He has put her in charge of all his graces and gifts so that she can pour it out on whoever she desires. This is how much power the lord has bestowed on her. God has vested her with his glory so that she now serves as the mediatrix of all graces.

During one of the visitations of the blessed Virgin to saint Bernadette of Lourdes. Bernadette asked our Lady who she was, our lady answered; Qué soï era immaculado councepcioũ (“I am the Immaculate Conception”).

This was one of the things that validated the story of Bernadette. You see, Bernadette was young and ignorant, she was not learned and had very little knowledge about catechism. So it was strange to hear her pronounce such a big word like the Immaculate Conception.

Knowing all that her son went through to save mankind, it brings sorrow to Mary’s heart when she sees God’s children perishing in sin. The Immaculate Conception keeps calling on all Christians to come to her that she may teach us and mould us into worthy Christians.
