REFLECTION FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF MARY MOTHER OF GOD – 1ST JANUARY

HOMILY THEME: A YEAR OF LIFE IN ABUNDANCE AND STEADFASTNESS IN PRAYER (Jn.10:10)

BY: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

HOMILY: Readings : Numbers 6:22-27, Ps 67: 2-8, Galatians 4:4-7, Luke 2:16-21

Child of God, the new year has started, what do you have to say to the Lord?

Many Prophets, prophetess, Evangelists, Pastors etc… might have titled this year as a year of favour, victory, a year of thanksgiving, a year of fruitful harvest, a year of divine riches, a year of wonders, a year of divine breakthrough, a year of turn around or a year of miracles etc…

Beloved, l think it is time to stop deceiving ourselves and tell ourselves the truth. And l believe we must go beyond our expectations of wants of material things (Materilistic World), which has robbed our souls of trust, faith, merciful heart, joy, peace and love of Christ and neighbors.

Many goes after things that are not necessary in life and forget the essential things of life, that is why sicknesses, sorrows, deaths, killings, wars, hatred, kidnapping, ritualists, cheatings, scammers, coronavirus and diseases have invaded the mother earth.

Beloved, it is time we wake up from our slumber to reflect where these problems are rising from and profer fast solutions and remedies through prayers and steadfastness in the Word of God. We must start anew to reflect and think less of material things which causes us sickness, high blood pressure, body pains, head aches, running stomachs, sudden and unprovided deaths, sadness and tears, and to depend more on God and his word.

You must agree with me that 80% of human activities and life are being spent in technologies, wealth creation, political affairs, office works, and only 20% is given to our relationship with God which leads us to poor prayer life and lack of steadfastness in God promises (word of God), and when temptations of life befalls us, we are easily carried away. Let us stop making unwanted excuses and accept that we have failed our creator and begin to seek reconciliation with God and neighbor.

This new year 2021 and other years ahead of us, should be a years of abundant life (Jn.10:10) and steadfastness in prayer with deeper relationship with God, so that we can experience once again the good things of the Lord Jesus.

I believed you and I have suffered and sorrowed enough, let us move into this new year with transformation, change of life and ideas built on prayer, love, steadfastness and confidence in OUR *CREATOR* , and walk in the light of his presence by going to the essential things that gives solid meaning to our spiritual and physical life.

Let us remember that entering into the new year does not mean you and I will not meet life challenges, but let us know that the Messiah we are serving is greater and bigger than every uncertainties of life.

With the words of (Numbers 6:22-27) l pray that the Lord will keep you, may His face shine upon you in this new year 2021, may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

*I wish you all Happy new year of life in abundance and steadfastness in prayer 2021.*

Always on my knees for you in prayers.
