REFLECTION/HOMILY FOR THE CORPUS CHRISTI (YEAR A)

REFLECTION/HOMILY FOR THE CORPUS CHRISTI (YEAR A)

BY: Fr. Abiagom Augustine CM

HOMILY THEME: LOOK BEYOND THE BREAD AND WINE.

We celebrate “Corpus Christi” God’s gift of Himself to us in the Person of His Son our Lord Jesus Christ, the centre and summit of our worship and the life in us.

The Eucharist has always been with us. In the Old Testament as a figure and in the New Testament as an event. After the institution of the Eucharist by Jesus at the Last Supper, the Eucharist became a sacrament unto us; a prolongation of the event.

We are often deceived by the senses not to completely acknowledge the reality of the full presence of Divinity in the Eucharist. If we look beyond the bread we see, touch, eat and the cup we see, touch, lift and drink from, we would know we have seen, touched and recieved the Lord.

Within the appearances of the bread and wine is the true body and blood of Christ together with the soul and divinity. It is with the eye of faith, hope and love that we can behold our Savior and Lord in the Eucharist.

Worthy celebration and reception of the Eucharist is necessary and would be possible if we acknowledge we are celebrating God and receiving God into our lives.

Love.
