SERMON/HOMILY FOR 26TH FRIDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
SERMON/HOMILY FOR 26TH FRIDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: BE LIKE ST. FRANCIS!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Job 38:1,12-21,40:3-5, Ps. 139:1-3,7-10,13-14, Luke 10:13-16
There are times when we think we have God figured out completely. We try to predict His ways, we try to command Him to work in our interests, we even insult Him for times we feel He failed us. This is largely due to Ignorance. When we pay attention to the first reading of today, we realise that no one can know or understand God completely. When the Lord answers Job from the whirlwind, Job realises that truly God is way beyond him. And Job concludes by saying, “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you?

Friends, St. Francis of Assisi teaches us that genuinely loving God is possible, even if we don’t completely understand him. I remember him as that Saint who saw the good in everyone and everything. He was that stigmatist who was so at peace with God, man, and even nature. He gave up wealth to serve the poor and the needy. He could really sing; and it was he who founded the Order known as the Franciscans. St. Francis of Assisi, like Job, had a faith strong enough to move mountains, a compassion deep enough to touch the hardest souls, and a love, genuine enough to embrace all creatures. Be like Francis!
God bless your weekend ahead. St Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
