Homily for Friday February 11 2022

Our Lady of Lourdes

1 Kings 11:29-32; 12:19; Mark 7:31-37

In our struggles with sin, some of us have gone deaf and incurred some impediments of conscience. This is what happened to King Solomon because of his association with women who had no fear of God. Consequently, the prophet Ahijah, in fulfilment of God’s plan to tear Israel from Solomon, tore his brand new garment to twelve pieces, and gave Jeroboam ten pieces. This action of the prophet further reminds us that sin indeed has consequences.

Friends, today, Jesus says to us, as he said to the deaf man who also had an impediment in speech, “Ephphatha!” We need our ears opened that we may not fail to hear God’s word, and our tongues loosened that we may be able to speak clearly against evil. We must therefore be careful of resisting and questioning things we already know to be true. When we fall into sin, we show we don’t trust God enough. Jesus Christ remains our example, because “he did all things well”. May we also learn to do all things well like Christ did, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
