Homily for Thursday February 24 2022

James 5:1-6; Mark 9:41-50

There are ingredients that one may be able to do without when cooking; but certainly not salt. No matter how much seasoning one uses, no matter the care one takes while cooking, salt is just irreplaceable. Omit it, and your food tastes wrong. The Christian who calculates his/her success by the quantity of material wealth he/she is able to amass is done for.

Friends, for love of money, many have cheated, stolen, denied others their wages, and even killed. Material wealth and a life of pleasure spoils our Christian flavour. Jesus says we should cut off those ingredients that make us taste wrong; those vices that prevent us from being worthy candidates of heaven. A Christian should stay ‘salty’ in order to matter in our world today; in order to be able to make a difference. This is the path to inner peace.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
