SUNDAY HOMLY FOR 25TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
SUNDAY HOMLY FOR 25TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: DELIVERANCE FROM THE UNGODLY
BY: Onuoja Bright Day
Wisdom 2:12, 17-20 / James 3:16-4:3 / Mark 9:30-37
The ungodly always seeks for the downfall, the destruction or the killing of the godly. The ungodly works for Satan their father,
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8). Again the scripture says:”Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand,
for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10). This testifies that, the devil and his agents work against the godly all the time.

The Lord will deliver his people
1: The trap against the godly
The ungodly always set a trap for the godly, a trap of danger. They lie in wait for the fall of the righteous (wisdom 2:12). But, the Lord will frustrate their designs. Because, the Lord is my (our) portion psalm 23
2: The Ungodly Attitudes
They do not do good and do not want to allow good. Some ungodly attitude is such that, they do not cause harm directly, but their activities and words block the way of success for the people. For instance, some one might hold vital information that will help another person, but he holds it away from him. May the Lord create a better way for you in all levels.”Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”( Psalm 23: 5) God is capable of blessing you beyond the manipulations of the ungodly.
3: The Selfish Ambition
The ungodly will not allow success for another person, except a success comes to them alone, if not they can plan to eliminate the righteous for their selfishness. Any ambition that blocks the way to success for another person is ungodly.
4: God will help the godly
The help of the righteous comes from the Lord alone.
“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2). The Lord will help and also favour the godly. “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12).
5: Avoid unproductive talk
If you do not want to be associated with unnecessary fight, gossip and stress you need to avoid unproductive talks. The apostles of Jesus Christ were busy on the way discussing who will be the greatest among them. it is ordinarily good to aspire for a higher position, but there positions you do not have to argue or fight for. It was even worse that all they can think of at this moment is who will be the greatest. This was when Christ already predicted his death. So, as you engage in discussions, engage in positive discussions. Some people when they gather in two, three or four all they discuss is gossip, others will even plan evil against their neighbours, fellow workers or friends. Avoid unproductive talks.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, deliver us from the ungodly, from their calumny, deliver us. From all forms of hate, evil and wickedness deliver us today and always in Jesus name. AMEN.
