The Oldest Person Alive
Sister Andre Randon is now oldest person in the world, the oldest nun ever, and the oldest COVID-19 survivor according to the Guinness World records.
A resident of the southern French city of Toulon, Sister Andre was born in 1904 and recently celebrated her 118th birthday on February 11th.
She seemed to have mixed feelings about her new title, however, calling it a “sad honor.”
“I feel I would be better off in heaven, but the good Lord doesn’t want me yet.”
A fan of chocolate, Sister Andre has a glass of wine everyday in her nursing home and enjoys being “pampered” by her family.
She converted to Catholicism from Protestantism at 19, and joined the Daughters of Charity at 40 after serving at a French hospital. She took the name Andre, in honor of her big brother.
When asked if she scared about COVID-19, the answer was a resounding “no.” In fact, she fully recovered in three weeks and had no symptoms.
“I wasn’t scared because I wasn’t scared to die … I’m happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else — join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother.”
If you want her “recipe for a happy life,” Sister Andre says prayer and a cup of hot cocoa every day is the way.
Being 118-years-old, she has seen 10 different popes on the Chair of Saint Peter since she was born.
