MONDAY HOMILY: 32ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR A)

Thursday of the Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. Year I.

HOMILY By, Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

THEME: Is it useless to serve God?

Malachi 3:13-20; Luke 11:5-13

There are those who see spirituality and religion as a complete waste of time. I empathise with them. I pray they come to turning points in their lives, where they begin to see and think differently. We cannot presume that we’re here by some stroke of chance, and keep living a life that is totally devoid of faith. The prophet Malachi reminds us in the first reading, that a book of remembrance is being written. The day will indeed come, when all evildoers and the arrogant will be like stubble, to be burned up, leaving neither root nor stalk.

ALSO RECOMMENDED:  Thursday of the Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. Year I.

Friends, we may sometimes think we deserve the love God showers upon us because we’ve been so good and holy. The parable that Jesus gives us in the gospel reading today, beside teaching that we should be persistent in prayer, perhaps more importantly, reminds us that God does not wait till we tear down the door before He answers us. We mustn’t forget this. So we must live each day knowing that God loves us unconditionally, irrespective of the situations that sometimes colour our perception. So when we pray, we must first ask for God’s spirit, that we may begin to realise our true standing in Him.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.

Thank you so much for celebrating, caring, and praying for me yesterday. May God reward you abundantly, Amen.
