YEAR B: HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: GO AND DO LIKEWISE.

BY: Fr. Evaristus Abu

HOMILY:

_“ Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed mercy on him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” *Luke 10:36-37*

The story of the Good Samaritan is one that we have probably heard over and over again but there is one aspect of the story that we do not pay much attention to. And that is the aspect that concerns us. “Go and do likewise.”

By telling us to go and likewise, Jesus is saying that we should start looking out for our “neighbours” among persons who have been hurt and beaten by the challenges of life. If only we pay close attention to the difficulties encountered by people, we would see many areas and way we can be Good Samaritans ourselves.

It all begins by putting yourself in the shoes of your fellow human being and then trying to see how you can be of help to him to her.

Go and do likewise means that the story is not just for entertainment. Helping others is not some leisure activity we do when we are in the mood or when we feel like, it is a COMMAND. If all we do is to amuse ourselves and gossip about people’s misfortunes, then there is no reason to say we are Christians.

Jesus Christ himself played Good Samaritan when he decided to be born as a man to live among us and die for our sake. He could have remained in heaven analysing the situation of things amongst humanity but he came to help out. We too should do likewise.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, teach us to love others just as you loved us. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Monday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time. Bible Study: Galatians 1:6-12, Psalm 111:1-10, Luke 10:25-37).
